Socio-culture on body image in each society

Recently, Although women have high education and can nurture themselves,but men and women in western society still have a body image that is not different from the past.women of western society would like have a thin and slender body type while a man of western society would like to have a large body (demarest and langer,1996:569)

In  society of parentiarchy syster, the women can not determine which body type is beautiful ,because it depend on the men’s thought.So men have function to determine which body type of woman is beautiful.In addition to the women’s beauty of body type has a difference in each society,because it depend on the culture,life style in each  society too .Example in Uganda the type of beautiful body is a chubby woman,because there is a shortage of food,then they give much value to a fat body  that shows they are wealthy. That is opposite to the beautiful body of western society such as American society have been having the plenty food,so the beautiful body is thin and slim.Women who has a thin and slim body seems be a successful person and has more happiness on their body.

The nature of gender

In addition to the nature create a difference of body between women and men,The socio-cultural influence is another important factor create the difference of body image.From a past through the present,the eastern society have a dominant trait that is a parentiarchy society.In the past the man’s role was the responsibility to their family by working to take care and protected everyone who lived in family.So a man is a powerful gender.A man who have a strong and big body is good looking that shows their masculinity.while a woman is a weak gender that need to be protected by a man and must  has a responsibility to bring up their kid,to be a housekeeper in family .The different role has been determined by the nature of gender.That mean the woman’s life must depend on a man who is a leader in a family that make a woman always want the thin or  body that have to be cherished and protected by a man.why eastern woman have to do like that,the answer of this question,I have to say that “because a woman would like to show her femininity.
